Window viewing.

Yesterday I saw a guy fall off his bike HARD while sitting at my desk. Looks like his dry cleaning got caught in the wheel... He was OK though. Probably didn't even know I saw it happen. Which always has me thinking as I'm walking Cody, "I wonder who's watching me?"

My last semester of grad school started Wednesday. So things are in full swing. DeDe was my first NYC visitor. She was here for work, but we were able to meet up Wednesday night and last night for dinner. Somewhere in the mix of all that and tonight's adventure to Staten Island for a graduation party... I'm fitting in studying for this week.

Lesson of the Week: Do not bike ride with your dry cleaned items in the city. You're bound to eat the cement.

Locked out.

I locked myself out of the apartment building this morning, taking the trash out. Just this one time I decided not to take my keys with me because I was going to prop the door open.... Well the door won and slammed shut. First reaction was to just cry. I knew it was early and our landlord wouldn't be over till noon. That's four hours without keys, a phone, or money to even wait out the time at a coffee shop. But I knew the upstairs tenants might be home. Great, now I'm the crazy, annoying, downstairs neighbors who's going to buzz your apartment early in the morning. They're going to hate me.

Buzzed a couple times. No answer. I pretty much knew they were sleeping.

Sat on the stoop for forever, contemplating life and why I didn't bring my keys. (Wanted to cry and scream, but didn't.)

Waiting won't be so bad.

I wish I would have at least had cash on me to get a coffee.

Time to buzz again. One short one. Two longer ones.

Finally! A voice on the other end.

What makes me feel worse is that the guy came out after buzzing me in and apologized for not answering when I buzzed earlier. Are you kidding me!? Thank you, I said, and I'm so sorry I kept buzzing and woke you up.

Turns out I was only outside for 30 minutes, but it felt so much longer, and it would have been.

Lesson learned. Then I cried a teensy bit for being saved from the stoop with no cash, keys or phone.

Road Trip to Wisconsin

Leaving for Wisconsin this week for Landon's baptism on Saturday. We're taking to the road Wednesday evening. We should arrive at grandma's at around 8 a.m. It's going to be a LONG night...

Thursday night I'm going to meet Shawn, Fawn, and Greg for dinner. It will be nice to hang out and see some friends. The rest of the weekend revolves around food — eating at some of our favorite Wisconsin restaurants. These include Culvers, Primetime (for fish), Mims (for a burger), Third Street Diner (for breakfast), probably fish again somewhere, and then Stevie B's or Sammy's pizza — and visiting family.

Landon's baptism is Saturday, and then we're all heading back on the road early Sunday morning.

Adventurous week comes to an end

What a whirlwind week! I swear I work best under pressure. Not sure yet if that is a good thing or bad thing.

Shawn came for a visit last Thursday night. We went to Savannah that weekend — ate at Paula Deen's restaurant — and did a historical tour or two. Then it was two movies: Super 8 and The Green Lantern. Then Stone Mountain. Then an adventurous day in HOTlanta, touring the CNN Center and MLK museum and birthplace.

After he left Wednesday morning, I had to finish a draft for my graduate course project, write two articles for work, and do some editing. My. Brain. Is. Fried.

I have one more article to finish and then I hope to spend the weekend doing some school reading and relaxing. (Maybe I can also get mom to go see X-Men Origins with me.)

My ass hurts from sitting too long today at this desk. And I'm hungry. I wish i didn't like food so much. I wish I liked exercising more.
