Pumpkin pickin and carvin

(I needed 2 candles for my 'larger, old school' pumpkin. That's why it doesn't glow as much. Not surprisingly, Shawn took 2...)

It's probably been about two years since I last carved a pumpkin and truly celebrated Halloween from beginning to end. You know, like you did when you were a kid. And so far, it's been a joyous time. My costume is complete. My pumpkin is carved. The only thing I need is a bowl full of candy for trick-o-treaters. But I don't think I'll get any, and I'll just end up eating the candy myself. :-(  So, I'm nixing the candy.

Yesterday morning Shawn took Linsay and I to a pumpkin patch. Well, a car dealership parking lot covered with hay and filled with pumpkins. We complained a little, knowing there had to be a real pumpkin patch just a little north of the 805. But then we were also complaining because it was so HOT.

I guess it's hard when you have it set in your head that the end of October should be a little cool. At least cool enough to bundle up in a long sleeve shirt and jeans.

But how can we complain? I guess it's just hard not too when the norm or tradition is set in your head. We made do though, and went about picking out a pumpkin. I opted for one of the larger ones. It's by far the biggest pumpkin I've ever had. We also picked up a pumpkin for Fawn and Greg to carve.

So me, Fawn, Shawn and Greg all gutted and carved our pumpkins. I chose to stay 'old school' and do the normal triangles for eyes and the huge mouth. Fawn, Shawn and Greg got a little more creative. We even roasted the seeds. Yummy! Then...we took pictures. It was a great day.
