Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you, to me, to everyone. I thought I was ready for 2011, but it seems I'm still behind. I'm still in December, sitting on my sister's couch in my pjs holding Landon and watching Lola and Cody play. My brain has not caught up with the times.

The many things on my mind in the past couple months are now in full swing. I have so much to do and many decisions to make in the next three months. I'm trying to prioritize everything. I am still feeling overwhelmed with emotions about everything.

I wasn't quite ready for my work trip to San Fran last week. It was a great time, but again, my brain wasn't ready to talk to deans and professors about law school stuff. By Thursday, I was worn out.

Today I am experiencing Jury Duty for the first time in my life. There are a couple of things I wish I was told before I showed up today.

#1: Yes, you can bring in a drink, so don't forget to get your cup of coffee
(I haven't had coffee yet today and it's 1 p.m.....)
#2: Parking will cost $16
#3: You'll get a two hour lunch break
#4: Bring water because it costs $2.25 to purchase a bottle of water at the courthouse
#5: Bring cash because there is a $5 minimum to use your debit card for food/drink purposes
#6: You should have gotten coffee before you came here

So I've been working since 7:30 a.m. I got hungry earlier, so I already at my lunch. (I packed a tuna sandwich and pudding snack.) Now I am feeling like I need a nap. I kind of like this though. It's quiet. No phones are ringing. Nobody is asking me questions (except through email.)

I was going to bring a book, but I finished the Karen Kingsbury book "Shades of Blue" last night. Pretty good, easy read.

I guess there are a couple two-week long trials coming up. I had to excuse myself from being selected for either of those because my employer only covers 5 days of pay for jury duty. In about 30 minutes we start up again. I may not even get picked for questioning. I think if I had the time and didn't worry about not getting paid by my employer, I would have checked the appropriate box and would have already been picked to be questioned by the attorneys for those longer trials. Next time.

I'll post some pictures from Christmas and San Fran this week. Until then, prayers are needed for peace of mind.
