Here's one thing I realized this election season (my fourth presidential vote since becoming of legal age to vote in 2000) — we all have varying view points on beliefs and issues. That will NEVER change. Where one person may be focused on the economy and jobs, others look at foreign policy, basic human rights, and many, many other issues in their decision on how to vote.
What I pride myself in is the understanding of beliefs on both political sides, therefore I'm not going to partake in any "rant" for either side. A very smart man told me recently that extremism on both sides is bad. I'm thankful my dad has a level head about politics. That we can discuss issues and educate each other on how we each view things. He can help me to understand the conservative view point, and I can explain to him my view point, which tends to be more liberal these days. It's really quite amazing to have a non-heated discussion and realize how differently or similar people think and why they do. This election season I couldn't stand all of the women's issues being discussed. I asked my dad why men's bodies are never an issue in politics. He said, and I quote, "Cause we drink and make all the rules." Ain't that the truth...
In voting years, I'm equal parts Republican and Democrat. I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004, and Obama in 2008 and again today.
Respect the vote.
Rock the vote.
And on a final note, let's shift our criticisms to Congress and the Senate — the actual people that need to start working together to get stuff done.
