What a week...I miss them already

Sometimes it's really weird after a vacation to come back to work and sit at a desk when you're thinking about all the fun you had. I did that this morning. As I was going through my 80 emails, images of what I did during my trip to the Wisconsin Woods floated through my mind. I felt like I should've been down by the lake swimming in the water, kayaking through our pretend safari or just pulling out some of "Aunt Wendy's" dip from the fridge and stuffing my face with chips. Now I know that I really did miss out the previous year.

I flew in to Appleton Saturday night and dad and I drove up to Lac du Flambeau to Dillman's Bay Resort where the rest of the family had already arrived mid-day. I had a very nice greeting from everyone. My little cousins are growing up so fast.

Those coming from Georgia drove up in an RV...a.k.a. The Rolling Terd. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday everyone relaxed and played by the lake. One night we had a yummy chicken dinner, and the other some really yummy spaghetti!

Monday night we had this dance-off talent show thing. It all started while we were roasting marshmellows.

Cousin Zach started shaking his business and we all migrated back to the front of our lodge. Cousin Tyler got out his ipod with speakers and some of us showed off our dance moves. I got up there a couple times but was more entertained by the little ones who have impressive moves! Cousin Chandler can really shake it up. I was trying to follow him a couple times with the dance sequences for the songs.

Later the dance-party turned into an interpretive show. Zach and Tyler kept us laughing for a long time singing everything from country ballads to rock-n-roll. Somewhere between the dancing and interpretive show, cousin Madison whipped out two cart-wheels and a front split in front of everyone. We were all impressed and it was thankfully caught on video.

On Wednesday, we spent the evening in Minocqua first stopping at Culver's for butter burgers, fries and cheese curds. We then watched the Minocqua Aqua-Nets water ski show. Tryouts are next week. I guess I'll have to miss them....

And the big event of the week — our 22-mile bike ride in Boulder Junction on Thursday. I think it was 24 of us. Yes, it was a sight to see. People for miles could have probably heard us yell "Biker!" and it trailed to the back of the line "Biker! Biker! Biker!" We did this to alert the others that an oncoming biker was ahead. So funny. We had bells on our bikes, which we decided to use only for emergency's, but it was too hard not to ring it every once in a while.

Grandma and grandpa met up with us halfway, delivering sandwiches, chips and drinks. Some of us took a dip in the lake, which was really cold. We then made our way back to the bicycle shop. I think we had leftovers that night for dinner — a little spaghetti goulosh.

Ok. So the resort next to ours has that trampoline in the water. We were all dying to try it out. The first attempt didn't work out so well. Everyone got on a kayak and paddled over, but as soon as they got close, some guy yelled that it wasn't Dillman's Bay property. So everyone scooted back with promises to go at night. That didn't happen.

Well Friday afternoon, while some were riding around on jet skis and laying out by the lake...me, cousins Katelyn and Madison paddled out with no initial intention on testing out the
big trampoline. But somehow, we slowly made our way over there. To distract any intention that we were on their side of the
lake to get on the trampoline, we started calling for our other cousins. (You can see the trampoline from our main lodge.) As we yelled for them, we continued to paddle closer. Katelyn and I voted that Madison would be the first to jump on because she was the smallest and youngest and too cute to get in trouble. She's five. Hehehehehe....
We were laughing so hard. So while Katelyn (who is nine) was coming up with an excuse as to what we'd say to someone if they yelled at us, I paddled closer. We got closer and Madison almost didn't do it. She put her hands up to her face and said "I can't do it. I can't do it....." while we continued to laugh.

Finally we made a paddle for it and Madison scooted up to the front of the paddle boat and we pushed her up. She jumped around quick and then Katelyn got on. I looked back to where the family was lounging around to see if they saw what we finally accomplished....and hoped I wouldn't get in trouble. It was so cute. They were giggling and laughing while jumping around and falling. I stuck close in the paddle boat in case we had to make a run for it. After a little while I had them get back on the paddle boat, but they were anxious to do it again so we turned around even before we started back. This time I got on. Madison instructed me to tie the paddle boat to the trampoline and get on. I did so. It's not as easy as it looks. Then I got off and they did too. Both wanted back on again, but this time Madison didn't get a good grip on the trampoline and slipped off into the cold water. Katelyn helped her up the ladder and they jumped around. They looked like popcorn in a popper.

Though Saturday was the big family reunion, I think we were all pretty sad that the week of fun was ending.
Much more to come...including pictures...
