Eleven of us headed up to Big Bear for a camping adventure last weekend. I packed up my little (recently tuned up) Honda Civic with camping supplies: tent, sleeping bag, massive amounts of food (courtesy of Shawn's grocery shopping skills), blankets ... among other things. Let me just say, the three of us were packed in nicely for the 2 1/2 hour drive from 10 ft elevation to 7,000 ft. It was quite a climb. Especially for my little car.
But once we got to the top - oh. my. gawd. the view was amazing! Heart Bar Campground was perfect. Our two sites were basically overlooking a cliff with amazing views of the San Bernardino National Forest. The weather was a cool/warm 70's. But it did get a little cooler (mid-40s) at night than I think we all expected. Heart Bar wasn't our first pick, but everything was booked up when we called. Unfortunately, no lake or river was nearby ... though we did try to find the supposed river on our hiking adventure. No such luck. We think it was dried up - water shortage.
No showers either ... so those Kleenex wipes came in handy for everyone. :)
Here are a couple of pictures. Part 2 will have more photos of those yummy pudgy pies, etc. Kristen finally found a pudgy pie maker at Wal-Mart. Thank goodness!

Our arrival (Shawn, Me, Atsumi) in my little white car. That baby made it all the way up the mountain!

The early arrivals chilling in the camping chairs: Angelica, Johan, Shawn, Me, Atsumi. Notice our mountainous view behind us.

Me and Rocky (Angelica & Johan's dog) relaxing after the long drive.

The start of our hike. This dirt road led us to the hiking trails, which also served as a trail for horseback riding ... so we got an extra workout walking on that sandy path.

Views from our hike. Breathtaking!
