Out of order

Why is going to the bathroom in public places such an insecurity for people, especially at work? I thought it was about time to address this, as I feel I have graduated somewhat to the "I Don't Care What You'll Think" bathroom experience.

Work potty time. These aren't strangers. You see your co-workers more often than you see your family... at least I do. Most office bathrooms are for one person, not multiple like in public places.

So, you feel the grumble after your first or second cup of coffee. It's time to go. You finish. Do you dare use the bathroom spray? I mean, if I spray, everyone will for sure know I did the No. 2. But if I don't, well, that could be worse. For me, it's been the actual noise the spray makes. My intent is to sneak out of the bathroom without the next person knowing I was "the one." The spray can always ALERT your employees. It sounds like a loud...

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

And you know everyone within earshot of the bathroom is thinking, "Yep, she just did that." Gross. Won't be going in there for a while. Or the lingering smell of the spray slowly making its way to the noses of your co-workers. (This is why I am conscious about not spray too much.)

You then walk out of the bathroom kind of fast, with your head down as you walk to your desk. What? I didn't do anything.

If you're like my one co-worker, you spray, leave on the fan and leave a small crack in the door. I've started that trick. It's the trick for smell-be-gone and a courteous alert to your co-workers — DO NOT ENTER for a while...

Great conversation huh? And it's only Tuesday...
