A weekend in the Desert

The roomies and I took a last minute trip to Phoeniz, Arizona, this last weekend. For all of us, it was a first to the desert. One of Shawn's friends from grad school lives in Phoenix with her sister.

So all four of us got up at the butt-crack of dawn Saturday morning to make the 5 1/2 hour trip. I found out when I got home from work Friday night that the golfing "event" we were going to was actualy the Phoenix Open. Pretty cool. But we ended up not going to the actual golfing event and instead went to it's neighboring bash, The Birds Nest. That night I realized that we were actually in Scottsdale. Come on! So that was a surprise to me.

I got my first taste of the Arizona sunshine and how cold it gets at night! I was seriously freezing! I was either too hot or too cold the whole time I was there. I still say to dad that if him and mom retire out there, they gotta have a POOL!

On Sunday we trecked up Hole in the Rock before kicking back at Ashley's place to watch the Superbowl. We screamed and jumped around when the Cardinals made that last touchdown and then slowly got sad when they lost. OH man am I so glad football is over! No more football competing with my shows! Greg!

Here are a couple photos from the trip. :-)

So I slept most of the way to Phoenix, but when I woke up, this is what I saw. Lots of sand!

Of course Boarder Patrol was out and about. We had to answer the question, "Are you a legalized U.S. citizen." We all shook our heads yes.

I was very excited to see cactuses. Here's the first one I saw from the road.

And, here is me pretending I was pricked by the cactus. They are so interesting!

A different kind of cactus, and my shadow. :-)

This is on our way to Hole in the Rock.

Looking out of the Hole in the rock.

Me and the Hole in the rock. (It was HOT)

A beautiful Palm Tree.
Just me, livin on the edge, of the Hole in the Rock. Just getting a nice winter tan.

I don't know if you knew. I'm sure you do. But today is Groundhog's Day, and he saw his shadow. So that means six more weeks of winter. Why do we even celebrate Groundhog's Day out here??!??! They say...we may get..some RAIN. ooooooaaaahhh!

Chelle, seriously, how do you spell the plural of cactus? Poor Great Grandma Paff is rolling over in her Sun City, AZ grave over your spelling of cactuses!! We have some great older pictures of you and mom by some big cacti in grandma Paff's Sun City neighborhood.

DAD, it can be spelled Cacti or Cactuses. Get out your dictionary and look it up. Cactuses just sounds more fun. :-)
